Re: None Hunches (Don Boice)
I can relate I have one line that is Eikenberry and I have seen at least 15 variations from the original german Eychenberg. My mom's side is Painter and it has variations of Pinter, Panther, Panter, Pinter, Binder, Bainder, Bainter, Binter and others. I think some of the B's were do to mistranslations from Census records or the census taker not sure how to write it. I know the Eikenberry line we have people in same family with different spellings and have children buried in family plots all with a different spelling of last name. I have had no luck outside of oregon on the Painter family and am thinking I will have to try to find the name as one of the variations. I am pretty sure with names like Flavius and Josephus they were menonite or something simular and have found names that are close coming from Pennsylvania. The problem I have is my Flavius Josephus O. Painter was from Virginia which a portion of became part of Kentucky. so I would have to find a connection fom PA to VA or KY. Unfortunately my grandfather destroyed almost all records of his family and there are no known living relatives that have any knowledge of this family. I have tried skirting around the family by looking at his wife's family the Dickerson's (various spellings) but this line has some conflicting information as well.
