NoneGeorge Iman - Sullivans Island - Smithsonian

Dear Iman family,

I'm currently working on a repatriation report on Sullivans Island and George Iman's descripton of the island and burial sheds is one of the most helpful. By way of introduction, I'm the associate chair of anthropology at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. The Sullivans Island collection here in the museum is subject to the repatriation law that governs some of our activities at the Smithsonian (the National Museum of the American Indian Act)since it was recovered from burials. It's an amazing collection.

I've been wondering whether there might be any other references to Sullivans Island in your family history--either via George Iman or someone else? Or anything about the village at Ice House Lake? I've been able to track down most of the published materials but in my field we're always hopeful that something else may turn up.

A number of us who work on archaeological collections from your region have grown very fond of George--we're delighted that he put his memories to paper and I'm happy to see that the Iman family is still very present in the region. It's amazing how families can disappear into history sometimes--it's good to see that's not the case here.

Thanks very much.
