Some of the local indians joined with them and some did not. The battle lasted only three days. On the third day, troops from Fort Dalles and Fort Vancouver drove the invading yakimas and klickitats away. now all the local indians were in danger of the Wrath of Lt. Philip H. Sheridan (a very brutal man). As a result, some of the innocent were hung. According to Jeff Moore, a few weeks after the battle, Indian Jim came to Felix Iman's door. He was armed with a muzzleloading double-barrel shotgun, and told Felix he was going to shoot a few soldiers because of the innocent who had been hung by Sherida. Felix grabbed the gun and yelled out, " There's been enough killing!" He threw it as hard as he could. It broke into two pieces. Jeff found this barrel on the original homestead site of theIman family. This is a reminder to listen and record the stories of our relatives. Even those not involved in historical events have stories to tell of everyday happenings. Their memories are precious and need to be kept alive for future generations. Who do you think you are? Maybe it's time to find out.
