Since I found this site in November, I've been working up the courage to write this e-mail, so here it goes...
To whom it may concern,
My name is Robert Joseph Iman, born Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, March 8th, 1968. My mother's name was Shiley Roberta (Sabel/Sabolski) Iman, cocktail waitress, born Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, January 21st, 1930, daughter of Joseph H. Sabel (orignal name was Sabolski). My father's name was Robert Ardel Iman, steel worker, son of Irene Iman (she later re-married, last name changed to Vasco). My father had four brothers and two sisters, Margrette "peggy" and Ruth. His brothers were Joseph Iman (youngest), Stanley Iman, George "Bubby" Iman, James "Jimmy" Iman (Navy, moved to California, died before I was born. My Iman grandfater? All I know is he called my Dad "Bobbers" when he was younger, he had some sort of small store that he lost, and then fell into a deep depression; I never met him. I don't even know what the man's first name was.
Currently, My mom died 1988, whereabouts of father unknown, whereabouts of all the other "Pittsburgh Imans" unknown. As for my current status, I am a disabled veteran, 10% disabled for damage to my during my time service as Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. I put myself through college with no help from family, starting at San Diego City College, two A.A. degrees in English and Behavioral Science, graduated 2001 Phi Theta Kappa. I then went on to graduate in 2005 from the University of Southern California, from which I earned my B.A. In Sociology, and my B.F.A. in Screenwriting from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Magna Cum Laude. Not bad for a guy who dropped out of school after the seventh grade and received a G.E.D. Currently, I am trying to get my first novel published, and I work providing security for homeless women and children at a shelter in South Central Los Angeles were I've lived for the last five years.
As I mentioned, I had to work up the guts to write this. For years, years, I've searched, trying to find out my heritage. So my question is this: am I related to all of you?
