Staghorns derive from a varity of forests of the world. Nearly all that
one finds in the US are of the "Netherland variety", though I'm sure they had
origins more in empire than in Holland! Of late I've initiated efforts to
support varieties from around the world. I believe this is an elkhorn with wider
and fluffier fronds. I've elephant-ear types from Africa, and some proud types
which put fronds out the top. We'll see how they do. My environment is not
antiseptic, and there are risks with less durable stock. I hope against hope,
and yet cannot do too much without a greenhouse and more time than I can provide.
Doing so is surely among my dreams.
